The Canadian federal government and Alberta have signed a new agreement to lower the industrial carbon price trajectory. The new plan sets a 2030 price of 115 CAD per tonne, down from the previous target of 170 CAD, to make carbon capture and pipeline projects more economically viable for oil sands producers. This agreement introduces a contracts for difference scheme to stabilize the carbon credit market and prevent price crashes. The move puts pressure on British Columbia to align its own industrial pricing to remain competitive with Alberta's resource sector.
