CamGraPhIC is developing graphene-based transceivers to replace traditional silicon components in data center chips. By converting electronic signals to optical ones using light, this technology aims to cut the energy consumption of AI hardware by up to 80%. With AI driving a massive surge in electricity demand, these efficiency gains are critical for meeting net zero targets. The company recently secured a 211 million euro grant to build a production facility in Italy to bring this hardware to market.
