Cambodia's Ministry of Environment and the European Union are discussing a $22.3 million waste-to-energy facility in Siem Reap. The plant aims to process 22 to 35 tons of waste daily, generating up to 75 MWh of electricity and reducing annual greenhouse gas emissions by 25,000 tons. Beyond power generation, officials intend to use the project to generate and sell carbon credits through an emissions mitigation scheme. The project addresses Cambodia's growing plastic waste challenges while integrating climate finance into local infrastructure.
