Cambodia and private sector partner to boost electric vehicle adoption for carbon neutrality by 2050

Cambodia's Ministry of Environment signed a memorandum of understanding with One Road Industrial Cambodia in June 2026 to accelerate electric vehicle adoption. The partnership aims to cut transport emissions and support the country's goal of reaching carbon neutrality by 2050. The government is offering tax incentives, expanding charging infrastructure, and setting targets for EVs to make up 35 to 40 percent of cars and up to 70 percent of motorcycles by mid-century. This agreement is part of Cambodia's updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC 3.0) which focuses on reducing emissions from transportation. The country's Environmental Circular Strategy rests on three pillars: cleanliness, greenness, and sustainability. The move signals growing alignment between public policy and private investment in Southeast Asian decarbonization efforts.
