The California Energy Commission is offering up to $11 million to support pre-commercial direct air capture (DAC) demonstration projects. Eligible projects must be at Technology Readiness Level 6 or higher and include a 20% private funding match. To qualify, projects must meet strict performance targets, including a capture cost under $450 per metric ton and a net removal capacity of at least 500 metric tons of CO2 annually. The program also mandates that 7% of funds go toward community engagement and outreach.
