Cairn Vedanta Oil and Gas cuts absolute carbon emissions 25% in five years through decarbonisation efforts

Cairn, Vedanta Oil & Gas, India's largest private oil and gas exploration company, announced a roughly 25% reduction in absolute carbon emissions over the past five years. The company also reports mitigating about 410,000 tonnes of CO2e annually and planting 800,000 saplings as part of a broader afforestation and carbon sequestration plan. These efforts align with its stated goal of reaching net zero carbon emissions. The company achieved Gold Standard Pathway status under the UN's Oil and Gas Methane Partnership 2.0 for 2025 and pledged a 30% cut in absolute methane emissions over the next five years. Other operational improvements include conserving nearly 0.98 million kiloliters of water, recovering over 155,000 barrels of hydrocarbons through oil sludge processing, and reaching more than 86% water recycling in fiscal year 2026.
