Caerphilly Miners Centre and Wye Gymnastics share £600k for solar, batteries, and heat pumps
southwalesargus.co.ukTwo community groups in Wales, Wye Gymnastics and Galaxy Cheerleading in Monmouthshire and Caerphilly Miners Centre for the Community, are receiving more than £600,000 from the third round of Ynni Cymru funding. They are among 24 organisations sharing £8.27 million across Wales. The money covers solar panels, battery storage, heat pumps, and smart energy controls aimed at cutting energy costs and carbon emissions. Wye Gymnastics supports more than 1,400 participants, with over 600 children coming through its Caldicot site each week. Caerphilly Miners Centre, based in a 100 year old former hospital, welcomes around 500 people weekly for therapies, exercise classes, arts activities, and micro-business support. The funding is meant to let both groups reinvest energy savings into community services. Community retrofit funding like this matters because it puts clean energy hardware into buildings that actually serve people, not just into large commercial projects. The scheme is a useful example of how public money can support local decarbonisation with visible, day to day benefits.
