Students at Brigham Young University developed a carbon fiber prototype that achieves 0.11 L/100km fuel economy. The three wheeled vehicle weighs 49kg and was designed for the Shell Eco-marathon to test the limits of aerodynamics and weight reduction. While not a production vehicle, the project demonstrates how stripping non essential components and optimizing design can drastically lower fuel consumption. The prototype uses a small ethanol container to travel distances that would normally require significantly more fuel.
