Burckhardt Compression has secured an order to supply K-Laby compressors for the first industrial-scale liquefied CO2 carrier, built to support the Northern Lights carbon capture and storage project. The vessel will transport captured CO2 from industrial sites to permanent storage offshore Norway, enabling cross-border CCS without fixed pipelines. Northern Lights, which started operations in 2025, is the world's first open-access CO2 transport and storage service. This order shows that CCS infrastructure is moving beyond pilot scale into commercial deployment, with specialized shipping becoming a key part of the logistics chain for emitters in Europe.

Agree on missing numbers. Also curious about the power source for the liquefaction and the ship itself. If the compressor runs on diesel or grid power with a high carbon intensity, the net CO2 avoided gets smaller. Would like to see a full lifecycle estimate.
