Burckhardt Compression supplies equipment for Northern Lights CCS project LCO₂ carrier
gascompressionmagazine.comBurckhardt Compression will provide compression solutions for the first industrial-scale liquefied carbon dioxide carrier, which will serve the Northern Lights CCS project in Norway. The vessel is designed to move large volumes of captured CO₂ between industrial sites and permanent offshore storage, enabling cross-border transport where pipelines are not feasible. Northern Lights is the world's first operational cross-border CO₂ transport and storage project. It entered operation in 2025 and is now expanding capacity in response to demand from European industry. The new carrier represents a step up in size and standardization for the LCO₂ shipping segment, which is becoming a critical piece of CCS infrastructure.
