Ireland's government is likely to remove scheduled carbon tax increases on kerosene and home heating oil for the rest of its term, according to Taoiseach Micheál Martin. Speaking before Budget 2027, he said home heating costs remain under pressure and that the yield from the tax on heating oil is relatively low. The government is also expected to confirm double Christmas welfare payments and is not ruling out further energy credits. The move raises a question about retrofit funding. Carbon tax revenue has been used to pay for home energy upgrades, and the Taoiseach acknowledged the issue is still being discussed between ministers. With the tax increase paused, the government will need to show where that money comes from. The budget is due on Tuesday.
