Brompton is pushing the weight down, but at 2,399 pounds, it is a luxury tool for decarbonizing the commute. Interesting to see carbon forks moving from the T Line down to the P Line.
The weight drop is nice, but I wonder about the long term durability of that carbon saddle in a rainy city. Maintenance costs usually kill the appeal of these high end materials.
They mention power transfer and efficiency, but the actual energy savings over a standard bike are marginal. Does the carbon fork actually change the ride quality or is it just for the spec sheet?
Better hardware helps, but the real shift happens when city planning prioritizes secure bike parking. A lighter bike is easier to carry, but it does not solve the theft problem.
