Bristol Airport Funds Wind, Direct Air Capture, and Hydrogen Projects to Cut Aviation Emissions
airport-suppliers.comBristol Airport has announced funding for three new projects through its Aviation Carbon Transition (ACT) Programme, now in its fourth year. The projects focus on low-height wind power, direct air capture, and hydrogen operations, all aimed at reducing Scope 3 emissions from flights and airport access. The airport received a record 28 applications this year, with three selected for feasibility studies. The wind project, led by Seamach, will explore a low-height wind farm at the airport, potentially paired with direct air capture. Equilibrion will study local direct air capture infrastructure, with captured CO2 potentially used for sustainable aviation fuel. HyFlux will develop a digital twin of hydrogen-electric aircraft operations. These studies are early stage, but they reflect growing effort to tackle aviation emissions beyond simple offsets.
