Brineworks has opened a direct air capture (DAC) demonstration plant at Amsterdam Science Park, capable of capturing up to 100 tonnes of CO2 per year. The company reports early data showing capture costs below $115 per tonne, a milestone for affordable carbon removal. The system uses an electrolyzer that runs on intermittent renewable power, capturing CO2 from air while also producing green hydrogen. This dual output provides feedstocks for sustainable aviation fuels (eSAF) and e-methanol for shipping. Brineworks has raised about $11.5 million in funding and is now planning a commercial-scale pilot.
