BRICS Countries Agree to Deepen Cooperation on Sustainable Transport and Sustainable Aviation Fuels
money.rediff.comBRICS members meeting in New Delhi on September 12 and 13 adopted a declaration that pushes sustainable transport cooperation forward. The group, now 11 countries, agreed to work together on transport policy, investment, technology, and capacity building, with attention to circular economy principles in road, rail, and related infrastructure. India chaired the session. On aviation, the declaration backs Sustainable Aviation Fuels and low-carbon fuels as tools to cut emissions from international flights. It also welcomes the BRICS Forum on Sustainable Aviation Fuels and a framework for sharing knowledge on transport decarbonisation while using renewable energy potential. New initiatives include an urban mobility hub and a logistics supply-chain cooperation framework. Follow-up questions remain about funding and execution. Declarations list intentions, but the impact will depend on whether member countries set concrete procurement rules, invest in SAF production, and connect transport plans to grid decarbonization. For now, the agreement gives a formal channel for those details to be discussed.
