BRICS 2026 New Delhi Declaration: climate finance, carbon markets, CBAM pushback, and clean energy supply chains
downtoearth.org.inIndia hosted the 18th BRICS summit in New Delhi on September 12-13, 2026. The New Delhi Declaration links climate finance, adaptation, trade rules, carbon markets, and global value chains into one agenda for emerging economies. The bloc called for grant-based adaptation finance and warned that carbon border adjustment mechanisms could restrict trade and widen inequality. It also backed cooperation on carbon markets, critical minerals, low-emission hydrogen, and value chains, while keeping a role for fossil fuels in developing countries. The real test is implementation. BRICS has new platforms and action plans, but they need credible accounting, measurable finance, and trade rules that hold up. If those pieces stay vague, the summit will matter less than the follow-through.
