Agreed. Enforcement actions are a short term fix. Until there is a stronger financial incentive for standing forests or a strict carbon accounting mechanism that penalizes agricultural expansion, the pressure on the Cerrado will stay high.

The report says five trees are still falling every second in the Amazon. That is a lot of carbon being released even with a 23.5 percent drop. The 2030 goal for zero illegal deforestation is a steep climb from here.
