Bracell Cuts Carbon Emissions Intensity 47% Since 2020, Expands Renewables and Forest Conservation in Brazil
macaubusiness.comBracell, a Brazilian pulp and specialty cellulose producer, says it cut carbon emissions intensity by 47% per ton of pulp between 2020 and 2025, reaching 0.257 tCO2e per air-dried ton across its operations in Bahia, São Paulo, and Mato Grosso do Sul. The company is working toward a 75% intensity reduction by 2030 as part of its Bracell 2030 strategy, with a target to remove 25 million tons of CO2 equivalent from the atmosphere by 2030. At its Camaçari mill in Bahia, Bracell modernized a pulp production line and says about 90% of the energy used at the site comes from renewable sources. It also monitors NOx, SOx, particulate matter, and reduced sulfur compounds, with results below legal limits. The company reports 3.4 million tCO2e removed in 2025, including 1.8 million tons from planted forests and 1.6 million from preserved native vegetation, and says it has helped protect around 301,000 hectares of native vegetation across its operating areas.
