SaskPower reports that the Boundary Dam carbon capture facility in Estevan, Saskatchewan beat its third quarter performance targets. The unit was online 94.7% of the time and the CCS facility was available 98.8%, capturing 209,781 tonnes of CO2. When running, the daily average capture rate was 2,501 tonnes, with a peak of 2,852 tonnes in a single day. The captured volume brought the facility's emissions intensity to 372 tonnes of CO2 per gigawatt-hour, below the federal carbon tax threshold of 549 tonnes. SaskPower says the CCS unit has captured 555,644 tonnes so far in 2026 and 7,883,512 tonnes since it started up in October 2014. The adjoining acid plant also exceeded targets, converting SO2 into sulphuric acid. The quarterly figures give a useful look at how a long-running commercial CCS operation performs in practice. Availability and capture rates are the numbers to watch for anyone tracking whether carbon capture can deliver at scale.
