Borouge International has introduced a new bio-based polypropylene grade, BA160E-8229-01, for use in drinking water and irrigation pipe fittings. The material contains 10% certified renewable feedstock sourced from waste and residual materials, reducing the carbon footprint of plastic infrastructure components. It is part of the Bornewables product line and holds ISCC PLUS certification for traceable supply chains. The grade is a direct substitute for the conventional fossil-based version, offering identical mechanical properties, processing performance, and drinking water approvals. Manufacturers can adopt it without modifying existing equipment or processes. The material uses beta-nucleated heterophasic PP block copolymer technology, which allows faster cooling cycles and higher demolding temperatures, improving production efficiency. This launch targets water utilities and infrastructure developers under pressure to meet environmental targets. While the 10% bio-content is modest and unlikely to shift global polypropylene prices, it provides a practical, low-barrier option for lowering emissions in essential water distribution systems. The move strengthens Borouge's position in the sustainable materials segment without disrupting current manufacturing practices.
