A new survey from the BMO Climate Institute shows that 73% of US and Canadian businesses now have or are developing climate plans, up from 69% in 2025. Confidence in climate action reached 91% in 2026, the second consecutive annual increase. Nearly one third of companies now track supply chain emissions formally, and 38% factor environmental impact into financial decisions. The survey also found that extreme weather is the top climate risk concern, followed by regulations and supply chain disruptions. AI adoption is growing, with 62% of firms expecting increased investment in AI for climate planning within a year. Canadian businesses are more sensitive to carbon pricing than US firms. Cost and data quality remain the top barriers to effective climate planning.
