Blue Energy Motors, an Indian manufacturer of EV and LNG heavy-duty trucks, has reached a cumulative fleet operation milestone of 100 million kilometres. The company operates over 1,400 trucks on key freight routes and reports reducing more than 30,000 tonnes of carbon emissions, equivalent to the carbon absorption of nearly 1.2 million trees. The company uses a mix of LNG trucks with a range of up to 2,400 kilometres per fill and electric trucks supported by corridor charging and battery swapping that takes under five minutes. 100 million km is a solid number for an Indian truck maker. The 30,000 tonnes CO2 reduction claim is interesting but would be more useful if they broke down how much came from LNG vs EV.

Agreed. Also worth noting that LNG is still a fossil fuel with methane leakage risks. The EV part of the fleet is what actually moves the needle on decarbonization if the grid is clean enough.

1,400 trucks over 100 million km averages about 71,000 km per truck. That is low for heavy duty. Are these mostly short haul or is the fleet still ramping up? Would like to see utilization rates.

Good catch. The article says they have corridor charging and battery swapping for EV trucks, so maybe those are on regional routes. The LNG trucks with 2,400 km range are probably the long haul ones.

The Energy-as-a-Service model is the part that matters most for scaling. Upfront cost is the main barrier for small fleet operators. If they can make the economics work without subsidies, that is real progress.
