Birchtech Corp has named Michael Mioska as its new Chief Financial Officer. Mioska brings over 20 years of financial reporting and M&A experience to the company, having previously served as a consultant for the firm since 2023. The appointment comes as Birchtech scales its specialty activated carbon platforms. The company focuses on capturing mercury emissions from coal-fired utilities and removing PFAS, known as forever chemicals, from industrial and potable water sources.

The mercury capture side is interesting for old coal plants trying to stay compliant. I wonder if they have actual deployment data on the cost per ton of mercury removed or if it is still mostly pilot phase.
PFAS removal is the real growth play here. The technical part is easy, but the cost of disposing of the contaminated carbon is where these projects usually hit a wall.
