BioCirc Opens World's Largest BECCS Facility in Denmark, Capturing 32,500 Tonnes of CO2 Annually

Danish biogas developer BioCirc has launched what it calls the world's largest BECCS facility in Vesthimmerland, Denmark. The plant captures 32,500 metric tons of biogenic CO2 each year from anaerobic digestion, liquefies it on site, and ships it to INEOS's Greensand storage site in the North Sea for permanent injection. The project is the first of five planned CCS installations across BioCirc's network, funded by the Danish Energy Agency's NECCS pool. BioCirc plans to add four more CCS units at its Favrskov, Haderslev, Gronhoj, and Vinkel biogas plants, creating a decentralized BECCS value chain. By linking agricultural biogas production with offshore storage, the company aims to layer multiple revenue streams onto its core operations and lower the cost of carbon removal. This approach targets hard-to-abate sectors like agriculture, shipping, and heavy transport with verifiable negative emissions.
