BioBTX and Rain Carbon Partner to Turn Plastic Waste into Renewable Aromatics for Chemicals
equitybulls.comBioBTX and Rain Carbon have announced a strategic collaboration to supply renewable aromatic products to the chemical industry. BioBTX has taken a final investment decision for its first commercial-scale plant in Delfzijl, the Netherlands, which will use its Integrated Catalytic Cracking Process (ICCP) to convert plastic waste into about 10,000 tonnes per year of renewable aromatic oil. The plant is expected to be operational in early 2028, making it the world's first dedicated greenfield facility of its kind. Rain Carbon, with over 150 years of experience in processing industrial by-products, will convert this circular aromatic oil into benzene, phthalic anhydride, and other derivatives that meet the same quality standards as fossil-based products. This enables customers in pharmaceuticals, coatings, toys, and automotive to lower the carbon footprint of their supply chains without sacrificing performance. The collaboration marks a concrete step toward commercializing circular feedstocks in the chemical sector.
