Bihar's First Black Carbon Monitor Installed at CUSB in Gaya to Study Air Pollution and Rainfall Impact
timesofindia.indiatimes.comBihar has installed its first continuous black carbon monitoring system at the Central University of South Bihar in Gaya. The new Aethalometer AE36s, set up with support from the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology in Pune, will measure black carbon and other light-absorbing aerosols linked to biomass burning. The data is expected to help identify emission sources and study how these particles affect atmospheric heating, cloud formation and rainfall. The monitor is part of the Ministry of Earth Sciences' Aerosol Network Programme, which plans stations at six locations across the Indo-Gangetic Plain and Himalayan foothills. CUSB's facility may later add more aerosol instruments, an automatic weather station and other atmospheric monitoring equipment. The expanded network aims to improve understanding of the links between aerosols, radiation, clouds and rainfall in a region where air pollution and monsoon variability both matter.
