BIDV, the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam, has become the first Vietnamese bank to join the Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials (PCAF). This global alliance includes over 750 financial institutions and focuses on standardizing how banks measure and report the emissions linked to their loans and investments, known as financed emissions. By joining PCAF, BIDV gains access to international methodologies and emissions data to improve the accuracy of its climate reporting. The bank plans to use this framework to build a roadmap for reducing financed emissions and to expand its green finance and transition finance products for customers. This move aligns with Vietnam's national goal of reaching net zero emissions by 2050. For the carbon market community, it signals growing adoption of standardized carbon accounting in Southeast Asia's banking sector, which could improve transparency in project finance and emissions reporting.
