Bhutan and World Bank Secure $515 Million for Dorjilung Hydropower Project

Bhutan is partnering with the World Bank and Tata Power to develop the 1,125 MW Dorjilung Hydroelectric Power Project. The project uses a public-private partnership model to minimize sovereign debt while increasing the country's energy capacity by one-third. Located on the Kurichhu River, the plant will generate 4,500 GWh of clean electricity annually. This will help Bhutan close its winter energy gap and export surplus power to India, displacing roughly 3.3 million tons of carbon dioxide every year.
