Bhutan has signed financing agreements totaling $515 million with the World Bank for the 1,125 MW Dorjilung Hydroelectric Power Project. This project uses a public-private partnership model to minimize sovereign debt while expanding the country's clean energy capacity and boosting exports to India. The plant is expected to generate over 4,500 GWh of electricity annually, displacing 3.3 million tons of CO2. By addressing seasonal energy gaps and increasing GDP, the project supports Bhutan's goal of remaining carbon-negative through sustainable infrastructure.
