The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and the Overseas Chinese Association in Bangladesh (OCAIB) met to discuss joint investment, technology transfer, and sustainability initiatives for the country's ready-made garment sector. Key topics included expanding Chinese investment in backward linkage industries, simplifying customs procedures, and collaborating on circular fashion, renewable energy, and carbon emission reduction using Chinese green technologies. The OCAIB delegation also expressed interest in carbon trading in Bangladesh and proposed replacing old Jacquard machines with modern equipment in the sweater industry. Both sides agreed to address administrative delays and customs complexities that slow implementation. BGMEA leaders said they would engage with the National Board of Revenue and other agencies to ease regulatory bottlenecks. The association is prioritizing renewable energy and high-value apparel manufacturing, and sees Chinese expertise in technology and backward linkage as a way to strengthen Bangladesh's global competitiveness.
