Better Stands has won the 2026 UFI Sustainable Development Award for its work in reducing carbon emissions across the exhibition industry. The initiative promotes reusable stand-building through a practical, tiered system that organizers, venues, and exhibitors can adopt. The award recognizes the industry's shift toward systemic, cross-stakeholder solutions rather than isolated efforts. The UFI award focused on best carbon reduction initiatives, and Better Stands stood out for its collaborative framework targeting single-use stand construction. With six best practices and four finalists this year, the competition highlighted growing maturity in sustainability efforts. Better Stands aims to scale its impact worldwide and add more features to measure success.

Interesting to see the exhibition industry finally tackle single-use stands. Reusables are an obvious win, but the tiered system is what makes it practical. Curious how they measure the carbon savings per event.

Good to see an award for measurable carbon reduction. The collaborative framework across organizers and venues is key. Hope they publish the data so others can copy the approach.

Seems like a solid initiative. But I'd want to see lifecycle analysis of those reusable stands. Are they actually lower carbon than single-use when you factor in transport and storage? Not all reuse is automatically greener.

This is a good example of voluntary industry standards moving the needle. The tiered system gives companies a clear path. Would be stronger if it linked to official carbon accounting frameworks like GHG Protocol.

The exhibition industry is a classic case where waste is built into the business model. Reusable stands cut waste and cost. The award might push more venues to offer the infrastructure needed.
