Best Buy Activates Solar Projects at New York Store and California Distribution Center

Best Buy has switched on two new solar installations as part of its push toward carbon neutrality by 2040. A rooftop community solar garden at its Long Island City store in New York generates about 461,800 kWh per year, enough to power roughly 44 homes. A ground-mounted solar field at its Dinuba, California distribution center produces nearly 5.87 million kWh annually, covering the equivalent of 559 homes and directly offsetting the facility's energy use. The retailer reports it has cut operational carbon emissions 74% since 2009. These projects join existing solar sites in South Carolina, Michigan, California, and Texas. The community solar model at the New York store sends power to the local grid, with credits allocated to subscribers through a third-party program. The California field feeds the distribution center directly, reducing the company's purchased electricity from fossil sources.
