Bernhard Schulte has christened the Northern Purpose, its first vessel designed to transport liquefied carbon dioxide. Built by Dalian Shipbuilding Offshore Co. in China, the ship will support the Northern Lights project by moving captured CO2 from industrial sites in Northwest Europe to permanent storage in Norway. The vessel features a 7,500 cubic meter capacity across two pressure tanks and utilizes LNG dual-fuel propulsion. To further lower its emissions, the ship is equipped with air lubrication and wind-assisted rotor sails.
