The company will supply API 6D expanding gate valves designed for low-temperature gas service and low fugitive emissions. The project aims to capture and isolate up to 15 million tonnes of carbon dioxide while recovering approximately three trillion cubic feet of natural gas. The hardware is one thing, but I wonder about the energy penalty for the capture process itself. If they are recovering 3 trillion cubic feet of gas, how much of that energy is being eaten just to run the CCUS plant? That usually kills the economics.

Exactly. Maintenance on these specialized valves in -70C environments is a nightmare. If the sealing technology fails, the fugitive emissions could offset a chunk of the carbon gains. Hope they have a rigorous O&M plan.
