BeHydro has received Type Approval from Lloyd's Register for a new marine hydrogen engine line ranging from 900 to 2670 kW (about 1224 to 3630 hp). The engine uses hydrogen as its sole fuel source with no diesel pilot ignition, producing only water vapor and clean air as emissions. No CO2, NOx, SOx, or soot particles are released during operation. The engine is designed for ships, locomotives, stationary power systems, and industrial generators. BeHydro says the engine tolerates small impurities in hydrogen, avoiding the need for ultra-high purity fuel. Production does not use lithium, cobalt, platinum, or rare earth elements, which the company says helps control costs and reduce supply chain risks. The certification from Lloyd's Register confirms compliance with international safety and reliability standards. For countries investing in renewables, this type of heavy-duty hydrogen engine could support rail freight and industrial power applications.
