A new report from the Building Controls Industry Association (BCIA) says commercial and public buildings are not getting enough policy support or funding for decarbonisation. While domestic buildings benefit from programs like the Warm Homes Plan with £15bn in backing, no equivalent scheme exists for non-domestic buildings. The report warns this policy gap could slow the UK's net zero progress. The BCIA's Policy Pulse report notes that despite £40bn in total funding and new standards like the UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard, non-domestic decarbonisation is being overlooked. The association calls for future policy frameworks to fully include non-domestic buildings and technologies like building controls that can cut energy use and carbon emissions. The report comes as the Climate Change Committee warns that delaying net zero will cost more than acting now.
