British Columbia has committed $27 million through its Clean Industry Fund to 17 industrial emissions-reduction projects. The money covers carbon capture, methane detection, industrial heat pumps, electrification, biomass, and efficiency upgrades. The biggest grants go to Tourmaline Oil for an acid-gas and CO2 capture project near Fort St. John and Heidelberg Materials for its Delta slag project. The fund recycles part of BC's industrial carbon pricing revenue into low-carbon technology. Since 2019 it has invested over $330 million, with the province saying every dollar draws another $2 from industry. The stated aim is to cut industrial emissions while keeping energy-intensive businesses competitive, particularly as electricity demand is expected to double by 2050. The real test is whether BC can build enough clean power and get projects connected quickly. With a mostly hydro grid, the province has a genuine advantage, but that advantage only holds if new industrial load does not push the system toward fossil backup.
