BC Forest Management Reduces Wildfire Risk and Carbon Emissions

The Forest Enhancement Society of BC (FESBC) has spent a decade implementing fuel treatments and fibre utilization programs to lower wildfire intensity. By creating fuel breaks and thinning understories, the initiative improves the effectiveness of fire suppression and protects local communities. Rather than open-burning post-treatment debris, FESBC transports low-value fibre to secondary manufacturing facilities. This approach avoided approximately 180,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions in the 2025-26 period alone, demonstrating a practical link between climate adaptation and carbon reduction.
