The Forest Enhancement Society of BC has spent a decade implementing fuel treatments and fiber utilization programs to lower wildfire risks. By transporting low-value wood fiber to manufacturing facilities instead of burning it, the organization avoided approximately 180,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions in the 2025-26 period. These projects include partnerships with the Council of the Haida Nation and the Nazko First Nation. The initiative focuses on thinning understories and creating fuel breaks to prevent high-intensity crown fires while supporting local employment and Indigenous-led forestry.
