Bayer and bp Partner to Scale Camelina for Sustainable Aviation Fuel and Biofuels
renewableenergymagazine.comBayer and bp have formed a strategic alliance to commercialize camelina, an intermediate oilseed crop, starting in North America. The partnership combines Bayer's seed technology and farmer network with bp's refining and fuel expertise to increase the supply of low-carbon feedstocks for biodiesel and sustainable aviation fuel. Camelina is positioned as a low-carbon intensity alternative because it can grow on marginal land or between main crop rotations. This approach aims to avoid competition with food production while helping the transportation sector decarbonize areas where electrification is not yet feasible, such as aviation and heavy shipping.
