Shrewsbury College could get a 102.4kWh battery storage unit at its London Road campus, paired with recently approved rooftop solar panels. eEnergy Group submitted the planning application, and the system is designed to store surplus renewable electricity generated on site, improve energy efficiency, and reduce the college's carbon footprint. The unit would sit around 147 metres from the nearest homes, in an existing maintenance area, with access kept for installation and upkeep. The proposal is with Shropshire Council under reference 26/03738/FUL. Supporters argue the site's screening and predicted low noise mean nearby residents should see little impact. The project is a small-scale example of how schools and colleges are using storage to make better use of on-site solar rather than exporting surplus power to the grid.
