Barnet leisure centre gets 220 rooftop solar panels in first community solar project on council property
uk.news.yahoo.comBurnt Oak Leisure Centre in Barnet now has 220 rooftop solar panels, a 101.2 kWp array that is the first community solar installation on a council-owned building in the borough. The project was delivered by Community Energy Barnet with the council, GLL, Repowering London, and Carbon3. Around 70% of the power will be used on site, with the rest exported to the grid. The installation is expected to cut energy costs by about £36,000 and save 241 tonnes of carbon over 20 years. Funding came from Barnet Council's Community Energy Fund, the GLA's London Community Energy Fund, and the Energy Industry Voluntary Redress Scheme. A community share offer is planned for next year to help fund further renewable projects in the borough.
