Barangaroo precinct locks in net zero with fourth solar farm and 25 year energy deal

Barangaroo in Sydney has completed its fourth regional solar farm, Carawatha, in the NSW Riverina. The four solar farms together generate about 55,000 MWh of renewable energy each year, enough to power roughly 10,000 homes. The precinct operates under a 25 year Green Product Purchase Agreement with CleanPeak Energy, a deal worth $48 million that locks in renewable energy certificates at a fixed rate through 2050. This structure insulates Barangaroo from volatile energy prices and ensures its net zero operations continue for decades. The agreement is aligned with the NSW Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap and adds new renewable capacity to the state grid. The four solar farms also provided around 260 construction jobs and roughly $20 million in stimulus per site. Barangaroo is on track for its 10th consecutive year of carbon neutral certification under the federal Climate Active program. The approach shows how a large urban precinct can use long term procurement to secure clean energy and avoid market risk.
