Bangladesh's RHD to Install Rooftop Solar on 400 Buildings, Targeting 5,144 kW by 2030
today.thefinancialexpress.com.bdBangladesh's Roads and Highways Department plans to install rooftop solar panels on more than 400 of its buildings, adding a combined 5,144 kilowatts of capacity by fiscal year 2029-30. The phased rollout starts with tenders for 284 kW in fiscal 2026-27 and scales up toward 1,500 kW in 2029-30. The department already operates 410 kW of solar at its facilities, generating roughly 25,000 units per month. Government offices will use the daytime solar output directly, which reduces their dependence on the national grid and cuts electricity costs. Officials also plan to use unused open spaces for larger, megawatt-scale projects. The initiative aligns with Bangladesh's renewable energy policy targets of 20 percent clean power by 2030 and 30 percent by 2040.
