Bangladesh has issued its first agroforestry carbon credits under Verra's Verified Carbon Standard. The project, involving 160 demonstration farms, generated over 60,000 credits by integrating high-density mango plantations into agricultural landscapes to remove CO2 from the atmosphere. This initiative provides a critical new income stream for smallholder farmers, bridging the financial gap during the four-year growth period before mango harvests become profitable. The project aims to scale up to 30,000 hectares, turning environmental stewardship into a viable rural business model.
