A new study reveals that Bangladesh's garment factories are far from reaching the 35 percent renewable energy target set for 2035. Currently, only 3 percent of the electricity used by these factories comes from clean sources, with most facilities relying on the national grid and captive generation. High installation and maintenance costs, combined with limited rooftop space for solar panels, remain the primary barriers to adoption. This gap puts exporters at risk as the EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive increases pressure on supply chains to reduce carbon emissions.
