A new study reveals that Bangladesh's garment factories are far from reaching the 35 percent renewable energy target required by 2035 for EU exports. Currently, only 3 percent of the sector's electricity comes from clean sources, with most factories relying on the national grid and captive generation. High installation and maintenance costs, limited rooftop space, and policy bottlenecks are the primary barriers to adoption. While larger factories show some diversification, small and micro units remain almost entirely dependent on conventional power, risking their standing under the EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive.
