Industry leaders and policymakers in Bangladesh say unreliable electricity supply and limited charging infrastructure are the biggest barriers to electric vehicle adoption. At a seminar organized by DCCI and BSREA, speakers called for a national EV policy, more public-private charging stations, and better battery quality standards to unlock the sector's potential. Currently only 669 electric cars are registered in Bangladesh, despite around 6 million electric three-wheelers operating across the country. The draft national EV policy has completed stakeholder review and is being finalized. Experts also noted that electrification could cut the country's annual transport fuel import bill, which totals roughly Tk 65,000 crore, while reducing diesel imports by an estimated 1.5 million tonnes per year.
