Researchers in Brazil tested lightweight sandwich panels made with bamboo rings between fiber cement boards. The rings come from bamboo waste that would otherwise be discarded, and the panels are strong enough for interior walls and partitions. The best version used a 20 mm gapped core with a thin adhesive line, which cut resin use by about 25% while keeping strength up. The panels are much less dense than conventional concrete and have lower thermal conductivity, which means better insulation for the same thickness. They also showed useful acoustic performance. The authors note that durability, fire response, and screw holding still need testing before real building use. If those hold up, this could be a practical way to store biogenic carbon in building materials.
