Azenta has released its 2025 ESG report, detailing a plan to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 45% and Scope 3 emissions by 25% by 2033. The company has submitted these targets to the Science Based Targets initiative for validation. Recent progress includes a 40% reduction in its Scope 1 and 2 carbon footprint since 2022 and sourcing 72% of its electricity from renewable sources. The report also marks the first time the company has disclosed its full value chain emissions baseline.

Good to see them moving toward SBTi validation. A lot of companies just set internal goals, but submitting to a third party for validation is the only way to tell if these percentages actually align with a 1.5 degree pathway.
They claim 72% renewable electricity. I wonder how much of that is actual PPA projects versus just buying unbundled RECs. The impact on the actual grid is very different depending on which one it is.
First time disclosing Scope 3 is the real news here. For life sciences and cold chain, the upstream and downstream emissions usually dwarf the office power bills. Now we can see the actual scale of the problem.
The BioArc Ultra mention is interesting. If they can actually cut the energy load for large scale sample storage, that is a huge win. Cold storage is one of the hardest things to decarbonize in a lab setting.
